Would you like to see fewer cars in Wirksworth? Do you have a car that spends a lot of its time not being utilised?
We're working on enabling a community-led initiative that will help to promote easier access to flexible transport options for everyone. Whatever you need a vehicle for, this approach seeks to provide options by helping to connect car and van owners with borrowers.
We've created a survey to gather useful insight as to how this scheme can best be implemented to serve the community.
What is peer-to-peer sharing?
Powered by the well-established sharing app Hiyacar, car owners can create a free account to list their car and make it available to neighbours, earning money to cover running costs in the process.
Wirksworth Shares is being set up to help gather interested parties, build groups of lenders and borrowers and guide people through the process of joining up, while promoting the community, environmental and cost benefits of sharing.
Our scheme is designed to connect individuals who need transport with those who can offer their vehicles.
Join us in reducing our community's carbon footprint, easing parking congestion and promoting resourceful, flexible transport options.
We've kept our name generic because there is also the potential to expand this to other forms of peer-to-peer sharing in future eg. power tools, bicycles - you name it! It's something that could really evolve if it gets widespread support.
Why Car Sharing?
The aim is to open up the opportunity for residents to consider giving up ownership of a vehicle (or for two-car households to go down to one car), saving money, reducing the number of vehicles in the town, and easing parking and congestion issues.
All without compromising access to transport when needed.
By having a range of vehicle types, sharers will be able to borrow to suit their needs on a given day. Eg. it would be great to have a van or two for DIY or furniture moving tasks!
To do this we need a critical mass of available vehicles, and this is where peer-to-peer sharing comes in.
